Frankly it’s ruined for me because it’s so contrived. If the person doesn’t happen to strike up small talk while getting probed, she is going to be like… “an engagement ring. Huh? Are you smuggling this? How did the officer on the other end know?” So many confusing questions. It’s only because he happens to mention he was already searched and remembers the name of the person who searched him that the plan falls into place by serendipity. He can’t be in on it, because that would ruin the joke (half the humour is that he is an unwitting pawn in their romance) and why would he agree.
